Linode

Developer-friendly cloud from Akamai.

  3. Good to know

Linode has been renting Linux servers to developers since 2003 — longer than AWS has existed as a public cloud — and its acquisition by Akamai in 2022 bolted one of the world's largest edge networks onto that heritage. The result is a dependable, plainly priced cloud with datacenters across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Connect your account and Rocketeers takes care of provisioning, configuration and everything that comes after.

What you get with Linode

  • Linode instances in datacenters across four continents, expanding on Akamai's global footprint.
  • Flat monthly pricing with a generous transfer allowance bundled into every plan.
  • Shared and dedicated CPU plans, so you can match the instance to the workload.
  • Two decades of operational track record behind your infrastructure.
  • Provisioning, hardening and full production setup handled by Rocketeers.

How the integration works

Create a personal access token in the Linode Cloud Manager (Profile → API tokens) with read/write access to Linodes, and add it to Rocketeers. Rocketeers calls the Linode API to create the instance, registers SSH keys, configures the firewall and installs the web server, PHP and database. Ongoing care — security updates, monitoring, deployments — is automated, while the server remains a normal Linode in your account.

Good to know

  • Personal access tokens can be scoped and given expiry dates; a dedicated token for Rocketeers keeps access tidy and revocable.
  • Billing is hourly with a monthly cap, and network transfer is pooled across the Linodes in your account.
  • Since the Akamai acquisition, new datacenter regions have been coming online steadily — region choice keeps improving.
  • Dedicated CPU plans are worth it for consistently busy production sites; shared plans are fine for almost everything else.
