Mailgun
Powerful email API at scale.
Mailgun has been the workhorse email API for over a decade, sending billions of messages a month for companies that treat email as infrastructure. It layers useful extras on top of raw sending: inbound routing, address validation and detailed analytics. Connect your Mailgun account and Rocketeers deals with the part everyone gets wrong — domain and DNS configuration — so your transactional mail authenticates cleanly from day one.
What you get with Mailgun
- A proven, high-volume email API for password resets, receipts and notifications.
- Sending domains created and verified for you, with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records set up correctly.
- US and EU sending regions, so you can keep mail data on the right side of the Atlantic.
- Logs, analytics and deliverability tooling in your Mailgun dashboard.
- No manual DNS spelunking — Rocketeers wires up the records for you.
How the integration works
Add your Mailgun API key (found under API security in your account) and tell Rocketeers which domain should send mail for a site. Rocketeers registers the sending domain with Mailgun and publishes the DNS records that authentication requires — SPF, DKIM and DMARC — automatically where it also manages your DNS, or hands you the exact records to add if it doesn't. Once verified, your sites send through Mailgun with proper alignment.
Good to know
- Choose the US or EU region when creating a domain; the two are separate environments with separate API endpoints, and domains don't move between them.
- Use a subdomain for sending (like mg.yourdomain.com) — it isolates your transactional reputation from your root domain.
- Mailgun's pricing is volume-based with a trial to start; heavy senders should look at plans with dedicated IPs.
- DMARC only passes when SPF or DKIM aligns with the From domain — the setup Rocketeers applies is built around exactly that.
